My side project Mukunda’s Friends deals in acoustic guitar-based devotional songs. There are nearly enough for an album, but most of them aren’t quite ready for release. However, one of my favorites is – so I’ve uploaded it to Bandcamp as a single.
Lacrimosa is an ecstatic song of separation and longing, and features singer Alannah, who appears on Expanse of Heart. Again, singing in ancient Sanskrit, she delivers a beautiful performance. The instrumentation is guitar and synths (piano, cello & bells). It was written and recorded in spring 2008.
Like Expanse, this song originated in a theatrical project that didn’t quite work out. Two of the six songs I wrote for it have been reworked and expanded, and one more may get the same treatment someday.
Lacrimosa is available for preview and purchase here.
Here’s a short clip. I hope you enjoy it.
